The teachings of Scorpio season

During my Alchemical Astrology program, my teacher Dr. Alanna Kaivalya introduced the sign of Scorpio using a French phrase, le petit mort, meaning “little death,” or orgasm.

When one orgasms, life seems to cease for a moment. One looses all felt attachments to ego and quite literally lives in ecstatic bliss.

What has always fascinated me most about the expression of Scorpio in the birth chart and in celestial events is the acceptance of death as a natural part of life.

The high-side expression of Scorpio embraces the idea that “two is better than one.” Merging with another can be scary because it requires vulnerability.

The low-side expression of Scorpio can involve manipulation and denial of one’s own drives and desires in order to please the other.

The sun enters Scorpio this afternoon at 1:20 EST, ushering in themes around life, death, sex, values, and shared monies: inheritances, wills and taxes.

Some questions to consider between now and November 22:

-Where might I sacrifice my own pleasure for the sake of fulfilling someone else’s?

-What conversation about money with my partner or my family have I been putting off?

-Who supports my research into my own psychological world?

-When is there an opportunity for me to safely explore and communicate my ideas about magic, afterlife, and the occult?

Scorpio is traditionally ruled by Mars, the planet of action. This weekend the moon will sit in Scorpio next to the sun and receive its monthly chance to reset in the “new” phase.

Join me this Saturday, October 26 from 6:30-8:00p.m. in the practice of yoga nidra, or yogic sleep. Through gentle movement and guided relaxation, we will ask what it is we really want out of the divinely limited breaths Scorpio reminds us we have to take.
