The Power of Karma: Understanding Ourselves, Our Choices and Rebirth
In this 45-minute class you are invited to drop into a space of inner wealth and healing. We begin with a talk on Karma, which comes from the Buddhist tradition of escaping suffering through the Four Noble Truths and the EightFold Path. An understanding of the true meaning of karma can help us discover what we can and must do to end cycles of suffering and rebirth. Join us to meditate, breathe and move our way toward real health and healing. If you wish to make a donation, payment is gratefully accepted via Venmo or mailed check to the studio, Ride the Wave Yoga, 12 Maple Street, Newburyport, MA.
Conserving Energy Through Words
Words are energy; living, breathing things. The root of "word" is verve - a liveliness, a certain fancifulness that has a life of its own. A lot of time we use words to fill empty space. Words can get in the way of true pause, silence and feeling. Much of the time we are even unconscious of what we say! WAIT is an acronym for "Why Am I Talking?" and can be a helpful tool for pausing long enough to sift energetic, meaningful, and helpful words from stagnant, depleted, and destructive ones. In this gentle to intermediate yoga and meditation class we explore the conservation of precious, divine energy through the WAIT inquiry. Balancing Right Effort and Ease
The Buddha talked about “Right Effort” as one of the everyday practices we must learn to cultivate in order to lead a happy and fulfilled life. Right Effort involves becoming aware of one’s own thoughts and choosing those that keep us in a state of expansion versus a state of contraction. In times of heartbreak and sorrow it can be especially difficult to maintain Right Effort and a positive attitude. We know from past experiences that if we effort too hard for things to be a certain way, then we risk anxiety, depression, burnout, and a missed opportunity to see things as they truly are. In this class, from 10-11a.m., you will be guided through a meditation and movement to create space, find ease, and acknowledge your own personal Truth. For it is only when we can pause for long enough to see ourselves clearly that we discover the effort necessary to effect positive change both within ourselves and the world at large. Trusting Ourselves to Know the Answer
It can be easy to feel very confused at times, whether it's in a pool of media and opinions, or inside our very own minds. But as Aristotle wrote, "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." We can forget that within us we hold the key to an unending well of intuitive wisdom and capacity to choose our response. In order to access our own personal truth we must pause for long enough to observe the thoughts coming and going in the landscape of the mind. Sometimes it is a lot easier than it sounds... In this class, from 10-11a.m., you will be guided through a seated and moving meditation to slow down and viscerally connect to the answers that you seek.
